108 Sun Salutations
Join the staff at Yoga Joy to celebrate the first annual International Yoga Day @ 8:30 a.m. @ 395 Derby Road. Why 108 you say? Google this and you will find all kinds of information from cosmic influence to mathematical equations but basically here it is: The diameter of the Sun multiplied by 108 equals the distance between Sun and Earth, and the diameter of the Moon multiplied by 108 equals the distance between Earth and Moon. The diameter of the Sun is 108 times the diameter of the Earth. This is why there are 108 beads in a mala. There are 108 chakras in the body with which we can work to align ourselves with the cosmic energy. No one knows how old the sun salutes are. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Raja of Oudh, representing a small state in Northern India, encouraged all his subjects to learn and practice this sequence for health and happiness.
"Surya Namaskara means to bow down to the sun in the morning. The sun is the life source for this planet. In everything that you eat, drink and breathe, there is an element of the sun." ...Sadhguru
108 is traditionally practiced as an offering. On Sunday we are raising funds for theBeaver Creek Farm Sanctuary.
